Sprague 715 polypropylene capacitors are famous for their great performance and reliability within audio applications. Well known throughout the guitar industry for use in tone circuits and used by many well known names.

Many guitarists over the years have noticed that when they turn their guitar volume down a little, the treble frequencies seem to disappear. Nowadays with players spending more time and money searching for that 'Holy Grail' tone, the last thing you need is it all changing as you back your volume off.

It's all to do with the way the pots work, resistance, capacitance, etc. As guitar wiring has remained practically unchanged in the last 50 years, this basic problem often gets overlooked when all you need is a 'Treble Bleed' capacitor placed across two of the tags on the volume pot. (See figure 2).

The tag on the right is normally bent back and soldered to the back of the pot. The left tag is normally wired to the pick-up, (or the selector switch if it's a Fender guitar). The middle tag is normally wired to the jack, (or selector switch if it's a Gibson guitar).

By wiring the 'Treble Bleed' capacitor across the signal tags, as you turn the volume down, the capacitor 'Bleeds' some of the high frequencies from one tag to the other. So even if the pot loses some of the treble frequencies, the 'Bleed' cap slips them back again.
